11th Biennial Lake Superior Youth Symposium
in Thunder Bay, Ontario
5 pm, Thursday to 11 am, Sunday* ~ May 14-17, 2015
Cost: $160 (Canadian) per teacher/student includes 3 nights lodging at Lakehead University, all meals from Thursday dinner through Sunday breakfast, and all field trip transportation.
For: Grades 8-12 students & teachers who live in or care about Lake Superior and the Great Lakes watersheds
Hosted by Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate & Vocational School, on the Lakehead University & Confederation College campuses.
Participants will explore the challenges and accomplishments of managing and protecting Lake Superior ─ the largest body of freshwater by surface area on the planet!
Students will take field trips to unique locations in the Thunder Bay area led by experts who will engage students in exciting learning experiences. Field trip destinations include:
- Fort William Historical Park
- Arctic microclimate at Ouimet Canyon
- Mission Marsh
- Climbing 450 meters up the Sleeping Giant
- Kingfisher Outdoor Education Center
- Canada’s longest suspension footbridge
- Alternative energy projects
- Green housing designs
- Award-winning landfill
- Amethyst Mine
- And much more.
Students will be invited to present their stewardship projects via oral presentations or display boards. Musical performances, films, and dramatic productions will round out the event.

The Lake Superior Youth Symposium has been held every two years since 1995.
The symposium is hosted by a local educational institution, and its location changes every two years as it circles Lake Superior, alternating between Wisconsin, Ontario, Minnesota, and Michigan.
